School Social Work Journal - Editorial Policy and Author Guidelines
The School Social Work Journal is a refereed journal directed to the interests of school social workers and school social work educators. Articles should be directly related to social work practice in schools. Articles may report original research, review the literature, develop conceptual thinking, or describe effective assessment and intervention methods and model service delivery programs. Occasionally, original poetry that is relevant to issues facing children and youths and the school social workers who assist them will be accepted for publication.
Submission Requirements.Manuscripts should be electronically submitted to the Open Journal System. Contributors should first and then the submission. Authors will be notified once the article has been submitted through the Open Journal System.
Instructions:

2. Once on the SSWJ page please click on the Register tab.
3. Fill in the required information.
4. Once registered, please click on the author box.
5. Once you have finished, you should be able to submit articles via the open journal system.
Include with your manuscript a cover letter, stating (1) the title of the manuscript; (2) a statement that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; and (3) all authors’ names, present affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.
Manuscript Preparation. The School Social Work Journal requires that authors follow the 2009 Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA, 6th edition) for citations and references only. Papers should be 15 to 20 pages, double-spaced, with a 1 to 1.5 inch margin on all sides using a 12-point font size. Use endnotes rather than footnotes and place them at the end of your article before the reference list. If an editorial decision is made to publish the article, a hard copy of the article should also be submitted to verify that all of the information was transferred correctly. Camera-ready prints of figures and photographs should not be submitted until after an editorial decision to publish has been communicated to the author. Because manuscripts are reviewed anonymously, a running head (not the authors’ names) should appear on each page, and any information identifying the authorsshould be avoided in the manuscript. In order to ensure a blind review, do not include identifying information on the copy of the manuscript that you submit online. Poetry should be no more than 20 lines long and can be in any style.
Title Page. The title page should list (1) the title of the manuscript; (2) each author’s name, present affiliation, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address; (3) a concise running title; and (4) five to six key words or descriptors for indexing purposes. Please submit the title page as a supplemental document online. In order to ensure a blind review, do not include identifying information on the copy of the article that you submit.
Language. Contributors should follow APA guidelines for nonsexist language and exercise care in referring to persons with disabilities as persons first and foremost, for example, “children with mental retardation,” rather than “the retarded.”
Review Process and Editorial Decision. Articles submitted are sent anonymously by the editor to four reviewers from the advisory board. The review process takes approximately two months, after which time the editor will communicate the editorial decision to the author along with a summary of information about the decision and, if appropriate, recommendations for revision of the manuscript for publication or resubmission for a second review. Contributors will receive one copy of the journal and five reprints of their article. The editor will make a decision regarding the publication of original poetry submitted for publication.
Permission to Reproduce Articles. The appearance of the code at the bottom of both the inside cover and this page indicates the copyright owner’s consent that copies of the article may be made for personal or internal use, or for the personal or internal use of specific clients. This consent is given on the condition, however, that the copier pay the stated per-copy fee through the Copyright Clearance Center Inc., 222 Rosewood Drive, Danvers, MA01923 for copying beyond that permitted by Sections 107 or 108 of the U.S. Copyright Law. This consent does not extend to other kinds of copying, such as copying for general distribution, for advertising or promotional purposes, for creating new collective works, or for resale.
Special Orders. Request for special permission or bulk orders should be addressed to School Social Work Journal, 341 N. Charlotte St., Lombard, IL60148.
